Our Healthy Maryland Initiative proposal to increase the state cigarette tax by one dollar per pack to continue to reduce teen smoking and to raise $100 million for critical health care and public health needs is gaining in broad popular support.

During the 2012 Session of the Maryland General Assembly, we worked with the Governor and legislative leaders to significantly increase the state’s tax on little cigars and smokeless tobacco which will save thousands of young people from addiction to these deadly products.

Check out our campaign page for more information about this effort, including data showing how past cigarette tax increases have helped to decrease smoking in Maryland by 32%, double the national average, which has saved over seventy thousand Marylanders from preventable tobacco caused deaths.
