Health Advocates Announce Mailers Touting Senators’ Support
For Prescription Drug Affordability Initiatives
The Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative announced today it has mounted an aggressive campaign to educate Marylanders about three state senators who have been leaders in the General Assembly in efforts to rein in soaring drug costs. The initiative has paid for mailers to go to voters in the districts of these three senators running for re-election:
- Sen. Katherine A. Klausmeier in the 8th District
- Sen. James N. Mathias Jr. in the 38th District
- Sen. Ronald N. Young in the 3rd District
The mailers highlight each of the senator’s strong support for legislation the past few years to bring down drug costs.
“The Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative is proud to report that Senators Klausmeier, Mathias and Young have worked tirelessly on behalf of the people of Maryland to bring down drug costs and have been key leaders in passing critically important legislation,” said Vincent DeMarco, president of the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative.
“In these mailers, we are reminding voters that each of these senators has the courage to lead and win important health care battles for their constituents. If voters want lower prescription drug costs, these senators are on their side. And we thank them for committing to help lead the way in the General Assembly next year to enact our Prescription Drug Affordability Board proposal to make high cost drugs more affordable for Marylanders.”
The Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative has received pledges of support for the prescription drug affordability board from over 130 candidates for state office. “Our polling shows that the public strongly supports our work on this issue, and we urge all candidates for state office to pledge their support in this important effort,” DeMarco said
