One Maryland group wants to add another dollar to the state cigarette tax.
Vinny Demarco heads the Maryland Citizens Health Initiative and says they’re proposing another dollar increase on the cigarette tax in Maryland.
Demarco says, Maryland’s cigarette tax increases have reduced smoking in the state by 32%, since 1998. Also as a result of the increases, 70,000 Marylanders have been saved from horrible tobacco caused preventable deaths.
The present tobacco tax goes into the general fund, but Demarco will propose this new tax to be used to expand health care.
