Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative Applauds We PAID Act
Introduced in Congress by Senator Chris Van Hollen

Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative President Vincent DeMarco issued the following statement today in support of the We PAID Act, introduced today in Congress by Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland.

“The We PAID Act is a terrific idea that will bring down the cost of lifesaving prescription drugs for all Americans. Senator Van Hollen has developed a smart legislative approach that will establish a new oversight mechanism to ensure that the costs of prescription drugs are fair and affordable. Far too many people across this country struggle to afford the drugs they need to lead healthy lives. Drugs don’t work if people can’t afford them.

“Drug prices have continued to soar for many years, but Congress has failed to act. We congratulate Senator Van Hollen for taking the lead on this critical issue, and we urge Congress to work with him to pass the We PAID Act. And we will partner with Senator Van Hollen to pass this legislation and improve the lives of people across the country.

“This legislation builds on our success in Maryland. Earlier this year, we passed state legislation to create the nation’s first Prescription Drug Affordability Board, which will have the authority to help make prescription drugs more affordable for Marylanders.”
