Today’s census numbers reflect what all of us that have been working on health care reform and Affordable Care Act implementation knew. It’s working. Just this morning we learned that as of 2014, the number of uninsured saw a huge drop of 8.8 Million Americans, and lowered to 10.4% of the population, the lowest level in decades.
“We are seeing the lowest percentage of uninsured Americans in generations, and over 600,000 Marylanders alone have gained coverage they and their families so desperately required,” said Vincent DeMarco, President of the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative.
“Just yesterday in a presentation at the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange Board meeting we learned that there are approximately 308,000 Marylanders that remain uninsured. This is down 58% since 2011. We must build on this incredible progress to make sure that no Marylander is left out in the cold, and has access to quality, affordable health care coverage.”
“We still have work to do to find the remaining uninsured that are eligible for subsidies and existing programs, but can be very proud of the work we have done so far, and the accomplishments we all build upon together.”
