A judge in Virginia found that requiring Americans to buy health insurance by 2014 is unconstitutional. The judge said he’ll let the law remain in effect while appeals are heard. Two other judges have upheld the law. It’s expected to wind up before the Supreme Court.
White House aides say implementation of the law won’t be affected. They noted that the insurance requirement and other major portions of the law don’t take effect until 2014. The Justice Department is expected to challenge the ruling in a federal appeals court.
