Vincent DeMarco, president of the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative, issued the following statement about the decision by Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh to seek U.S. Supreme Court review of Maryland’s anti-drug price-gouging law:
“The Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative applauds Attorney General Brian Frosh’s decision to ask the US Supreme Court to uphold Maryland’s landmark anti-drug price-gouging law. Too many people in Maryland cannot afford the lifesaving drugs they need, and the General Assembly responded by passing a critically important measure to stop Marylanders from being price gouged by manufacturers of generic and off-patent drugs. We are optimistic that the Supreme Court will consider this case and endorse our efforts to keep drug costs in check.
“As this legal fight goes on, the General Assembly should keep working on this issue and pass legislation to establish a prescription drug affordability board to make high cost prescription drugs more affordable for Marylanders. Drugs don’t work if people can’t afford them.”
