BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Comptroller Peter Franchot encouraged small businesses to take advantage of the tax credits under the Affordable Care Act on Monday morning at Howard County Community College.

The announcement is the first time in the nation that a state financial official has proactively urged small businesses to use the tax credits.

“We are hopeful that the comptroller’s mailing will significantly increase the number ofsmall business in Howard County who know about and take advantage of the health care tax credits,” said Vincent DeMarco, President of the Maryland Health Care For All! Coalition. “We hope to replicate this model across the state and encourage other states to do so also.”

Franchot joined the Maryland Health Care For All! Coalition to announce a targeted outreach effort to more than 5,000 small businesses in Howard County, which are potentially eligible for small business tax credits under the Affordable Care Act.
