Maryland Health Progress Act of 2013
Wednesday February 13th is the first hearing for the Maryland Health Progress Act of 2013. This is the last round of enabling legislation for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) in Maryland prior to Medicaid expansion and open enrollment in our Health Benefit Exchange, known as the Maryland Health Connection. A companion bill (HB 361) was also filed to give the Insurance Commissioner the authority to fully enforce the new insurance rules under the ACA.
Thursday February 28th is the first hearing for our Healthy Maryland Initiative, a proposal to raise the state’s tax on cigarettes by $1.00 to fund tobacco cessation and public health programs.
