Coalition Announces Senator Kathy Klausmeier as New Lead Senate Sponsor of  Prescription Drug Affordability Board Bill

The Maryland Health Care For All! Coalition will announce on Monday, October 29 at 11 a.m. that Senator Kathy Klausmeier of Baltimore County will be the new lead Senate Sponsor of the Prescription Drug Affordability Board legislation, joining Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk who will once again be the lead House sponsor. The event, which will be attended by people suffering from high prescription drug costs, will be at the Episcopal Diocesan Center, 4 East University Parkway.

“We are thrilled to have long time health care champion and Senate Finance Committee leader Senator Kathy Klausmeier as the new lead Senate sponsor of our prescription drug affordability bill,” said Vincent DeMarco, President of the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative. “Together with our terrific lead House Sponsor, Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk of Prince George’s County, Senator Klausmeier will play a leading role in making our life-saving proposal a reality in the 2019 Maryland General Assembly Session.”

“It will be an honor to work with Senator Klausmeier on the Prescription Drug Affordability Board legislation,” said Delegate Peña-Melnyk. “I know she will do a terrific job in getting this bill through the Senate in the 2019 Session.”

“I am very pleased to be leading the Senate fight to enact the Prescription Drug Affordability Board legislation next year,” said Senator Klausmeier. “Just like I led the way in enacting Maryland’s new law banning the gag rule which limited consumers access to low cost drugs, I will do all I can to make sure high cost drugs are more affordable to Marylanders through the creation of a Prescription Drug Affordability Board.
