Excerpt:

Health care advocates and federal, state and local leaders announced a $100,000 education campaign to help Marylanders sign up for affordable health insurance.

The multimedia campaign recommends people check a box on their state income tax form. That will start a process to determine whether people are eligible for free or low-cost health insurance.

The campaign comes after Affordable Care Act tax credits expired on Jan. 1.

“It allows you to sign up at tax time for health care,” said Vincent DeMarco, with Health Care For All. “If you’re uninsured and you missed open enrollment or you’re eligible for Medicaid, check the box at tax time, and you could get enrolled.”

Checking the box gives the state comptroller permission to share your financial information with the Maryland Health Connection, which will then determine whether you qualify.
