First presentation is to Baltimore City Council January 12th at 12:00PM.
On Monday, January 12, at Noon, the Maryland Health Care for All Coalition will begin a statewide tour of County and City Councils across Maryland to educate residents about the progress of the state’s landmark Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB). The first of these presentations will be before the Baltimore City Council on the Fourth Floor of City Hall at Noon on January 12. Maryland Health Care for All Coalition President Vincent DeMarco will be joined for this presentation by PDAB Executive Director Dr. Andrew York. The twin goals of these presentations are to inform Marylanders about the progress so far of our PDAB and its next steps, and to elicit input from Maryland leaders and citizens about Marylanders’ experience with high-cost drugs and what the PDAB should focus on to make prescription drugs more affordable. So far, we have set dates to make additional presentations to over a dozen local councils from Garrett County to the Eastern Shore and are working on reaching many others.
“We are thrilled to begin our statewide prescription drug affordability tour in Baltimore City, “said Vincent DeMarco. “Mayor Brandon Scott and City Council President Zeke Cohen have been strong supporters from the beginning of the Prescription Drug Affordability Board, and we are pleased to be able to report to them and the Baltimore City Council that the PDAB has made significant progress in making high-cost drugs more affordable. We also hope to get feedback on how the PDAB can best continue this progress. This work is critical because drugs don’t work if people can’t afford them.”
“The Prescription Drug Affordability Board is working hard under its present authority to make high-cost drugs more affordable for state and local governments,” said Dr. Andrew York, PDAB Executive Director. “We are eager to share what we are doing with local leaders and to hear from them and the public about their experience with high-cost drugs and learn about how we can provide the most impact for Marylanders trying to afford their drugs.”
“We’re proud to see Baltimore City kicking off this important statewide effort to make prescription drugs affordable,” said Baltimore City Council President Zeke Cohen. “Maryland’s pioneering Prescription Drug Affordability Board is making vital progress, and it’s essential that our residents are both informed and empowered to shape the Board’s efforts. Together, we can help ensure lifesaving medications are within reach for every Marylander.”
