Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative Statement About Senate Override of Governor’s Veto of Bill to Fund Prescription Drug Affordability Board

Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative President Vincent DeMarco released the following statement today after the Maryland Senate voted to override Governor Hogan’s veto of legislation from 2020 to establish funding for the Maryland Prescription Drug Affordability Board.

“We salute the Maryland Senate and Senate President Bill Ferguson for voting to override the governor’s veto of a much-needed bill (SB 669 and HB 1095) to establish a funding source for the Prescription Drug Affordability Board. We urge the House of Delegates to stand with the people of Maryland and vote to override the veto as well. The board has already started its work with preliminary funding and is doing a great job exploring the impact of rising drug costs across the state. And other states are following our lead by moving to create similar boards. Establishing permanent funding for the board will guarantee it has the resources it needs to effectively address the issue of rising drug costs.”
