On Monday, May 15 th at 5:30pm at the Greater Baltimore Urban League, 512 Orchard Street in Baltimore, Representatives Elijah Cummings and John Sarbanes, health advocates and Marylanders that are concerned about potential draconian cuts to the life-saving Medicaid program will gather to discuss their stories, and ways we can move forward to protect the program and make impactful changes where challenges exist currently.
This public forum, sponsored by the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative, the Maryland State Conference of NAACP Branches, the Baltimore City Health Department, HealthCare Access Maryland, and 1199 SEIU United Health Care Workers East will be an opportunity to connect with elected Maryland officials, and an opportunity to share how Medicaid has impacted them and their families.
The Medicaid program in Maryland serves roughly 20% of the state’s populations and in light of the American Health Care Act’s passage through the United States House of Representatives last week, the program stands to lose about $800 billion nationally which would remove health care coverage from hundreds of thousands of Marylanders.
