For the uninsured or underinsured, it means:

• not getting care when you are sick;
• few if any preventive health screenings;
• no regular access to a doctor;
• high medical debt, ruined credit, and collection calls;
• no financial stability; no health care security

For those with health insurance today, more uninsured people will lead to:

• higher health care premiums, higher deductibles, and decreasing benefit levels since those with insurance pay for the expensive emergency room care of the uninsured; and
• higher costs for goods and services as businesses have harder times affording coverage for their own workers. While employees of these companies get hit with higher costs, so do consumers.
• higher taxes. The enormous costs of health care for the chronically ill, disabled, and elderly are paid for by taxpayers. As more people lose their health and retirement benefits, it puts more strain on the safety net and more strain directly on your wallet.
