Push for Bill to Make Prescription Drugs More Affordable

Also on Tuesday, Attorney General Brian E. Frosh (D) joined several Democratic lawmakers and health care advocates at a news conference in Annapolis to push for a bill to make prescription drugs more affordable.
The bill would require prescription drug companies to disclose how they come up with their prices; notify the public of significant price hikes; and authorize the state attorney general to take legal action to prevent price-gouging. Sen. Joan Carter Conway (D-Baltimore City) and Del. Eric Bromwell (D-Baltimore County) plan to introduce the legislation.
Vincent DeMarco, president of the Maryland Citizen’s Health Initiative, said the issue needs to be dealt with a state level because there is little expectation of action on a federal level.
“Some say this is a national problem . . . but we don’t believe there is a national solution,” DeMarco said.
