The American Journal of Preventive Medicine published a study on the impact of Maryland’s alcohol sales tax increase that directly resulted from our work with the Lorraine Sheehan Coalition of public health, substance abuse, mental health and developmental disabilities advocates across the state to raise funds for important public programs. Not only did our successful campaign lead to more revenue for these programs, this study also shows that it had major public health benefits, including reducing incidence rates of gonorrhea in Maryland! This is great news!
