New radio campaign launches for health exchange

Health care advocates, health officials and the Frederick Keys, an Orioles minor league team, plan to unveil an advertising campaign Thursday to encourage people to sign up for health coverage through the Maryland health exchange.

It is open enrollment on the exchange, created under the Affordable Care Act for those who don’t get insurance through their employers, until Feb. 15. Those who need health insurance by Jan. 1 need to enroll by Dec. 18.

The radio advertisements in English and Spanish feature the Keys’ player Adrian Marin. They tell people to call 211 to get information about health benefits and subsidies that they may qualify for. Consumers can also go to marylandhealthconnection.gov for information and to enroll.

Advocates at the Maryland Health Care for All Coalition helped pay for a similar information system during the last open enrollment.
