Maryland might see $1 increase in cigarette tax

A new push is starting to make cigarettes even more expensive in Maryland.

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett  heads a list of VIPs who will join the Maryland “Health Care for All” Coalition today in Annapolis to call for another one-dollar increase in Maryland’s cigarette tax.

A coalition spokesman says three cigarette-tax hikes in the last decade have saved as many as 70-thousand lives.

Earlier this year, state lawmakers also raised the tax on tobacco products other than cigarettes.
